Prophesee and FRAMOS Sign an Agreement to Expand Sales and Support for Prophesee Metavision® Solutions
Global supplier of embedded vision solutions to offer Prophesee’s products to bring breakthrough machine vision technology to Industry 4.0 and Industrial IoT markets.
PARIS and MUNICH – September 30 2020 – Prophesee SA, inventor of the most advanced neuromorphic vision systems, and FRAMOS, a leading supplier of embedded vision solutions and 3D cameras for industrial applications, today announced an agreement that will see FRAMOS become a global distribution and ecosystem partner for Prophesee’s Metavision® line of advanced vision products. The partnership will allow FRAMOS to expand its range of projects in areas such as robotics, automation, and IoT-connected manufacturing to engineer customized solutions that leverage Prophesee’s breakthrough Event-Based Vision solutions for developing high-performance, lower power machine vision systems.
FRAMOS and Prophesee will collaborate to identify opportunities to apply the benefit of Event-Based Vision to critical areas in industrial applications, such as production automation and quality assurance. Key market segments include manufacturing processes, factory automation, robotics, machine vision systems, scientific and medical instrumentation.
All current STM32Cube MCU packages are already online, as well as Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) code and MCU-independent CMSIS drivers. The remaining STM32Cube embedded-software components will be added over the coming months.
Commercializing Event-Based Vision
Metavision platform is built on Prophesee’s pioneering development of Event-Based Vision, which uses neuromorphic sensing and computing techniques to mimic the human eye and brain for enhanced efficiencies. In Prophesee Metavision® sensors, each pixel is independent and asynchronous. Each pixel only activates itself if it senses a change in the scene, a movement – an event. This proprietary Event-Based approach allows for major reductions of power, latency and data processing requirements imposed by traditional image-based systems.
“Prophesee has developed successive generations of its novel imaging solution which has become increasingly viable for widespread commercial adoption. Combined with a robust development environment of tools, libraries and data sets, and an open-platform approach to facilitate system-level integration, this solution is well suited to match the next generation machine vision requirements we are seeing across our customer base,” said Dr. Andreas Franz, CEO of FRAMOS.
“Having a partner like FRAMOS is critical to accelerate the commercialization of our Event-Based Vision platform in the industrial automation space. By combining our respective expertise and technology, we can address the machine vision challenges of very specific use cases and offer solutions that have measureable impact on productivity, efficiency and safety in a wide range of industries,” said Luca Verre, CEO and founder of Prophesee.
“FRAMOS has a global footprint and track record of success enabling sophisticated camera solutions for some of the world’s top industrial companies. Their expertise in systems development and customization is especially valuable as we look to respond to the increasing demand for application-specific solutions that can take advantage of the performance, efficiency and range of use cases that our event-based platform allows,” said Ray Cisneros, vice president of global sales and marketing, at Prophesee.
The Metavision platform offers highly efficient machine vision capabilities for a variety of use models, including ultra high-speed part counting, vibration measurement and monitoring or kinematic monitoring for predictive maintenance. The sensor can be used by system developers to improve or create whole new industrial uses, including accelerating quality assessment on production lines; positioning, sensing and movement guidance for robots to enable better human collaboration; and equipment monitoring (e.g. caused by vibration, kinetic deviations) making the system an asset for predictive maintenance and reduced machine downtime.
