STMicroelectronics Showcases its Latest Solutions for Smart Driving at China (Chongqing) International Automotive Technology Expo 2017
STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) , a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, is exhibiting its latest semiconductor solutions that make driving safer, greener, more connected, and more secure at the China (Chongqing) International Automotive Technology Expo, held on March 22-24 2017 at the Chongqing International Expo Center.
China is a dynamic and growing market with a fast adoption of market-leading standards and technologies. Car connectivity, increased safety, and environmental aspects are rapidly boosting the semiconductor content per car globally, with the most rapid growth in China. For years, ST has maintained a leading position on China’s automotive market with its wide product offering optimized for the highest-growing automotive segments - Safety and Security, Telematics and Infotainment, Body Electronics, and Power Train/Fuel Economy. The ST portfolio can also address the challenges of China’s 13th five-year plan in Automotive, which calls for smart and sustainable mobility, cleaner cars, fuel efficiency, and new-energy vehicles of future.
At the Expo, visitors will see ST’s innovative solutions for automotive radar, machine vision, and V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communication. They will learn how ST’s latest automotive products can contribute to the success of next-generation modules for Engine Control Unit, Braking (including Electric Parking Brake), Passive Safety, Transmission, Comfort, and Motor Control for wipers and doors. Visitors can also get familiar with ST’s latest solutions for Infotainment and Telematics, Tuners, and Global Positioning System (GPS) applications, and find out how ST’s Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology can increase the range and reduce the cost of electric vehicles.
A demo car at the ST booth will show the Company’s complete car body-control module solution, including exterior/interior lamps, central lock, front and rear wipers, power window controls, remote keyless entry, and Local Interconnect Network (LIN) and high-speed Controller Area Network (CAN) communication functions.
Making driving safer and more comfortable:
•ST’s Electric Parking Brake (EPB) solution is based on a Power Architecture™ microcontroller (SPC560P50), a System Basis Chip, an ASSP, and an H-bridge. The SPC560P50 microcontroller devices address the specific needs of safety and chassis applications, combining market-proven broad scalability with a high-performance core and peripherals.
•The L99LD21 flexible LED driver integrates one boost- and two buck DC-DC converters, enabling the control of two independent high-brightness LEDs string for automotive front- lighting applications. ST’s SensorTile smart multi-sensor development kit with processing capabilities and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) connectivity enables the creation of applications for car-human-machine interaction.
Making cars greener:
•ST will showcase its SiC-based state-of-the-art power products that are suited for electronic vehicles and the underlying infrastructure. These include ST’s newest and advanced chip for Engine Management System (EMS) with integrated power management (boost/buck/linear regulators).
Making cars more connected:
•ST’s Telemaco3 single-chip telematics processors use a secured CAN subsystem to parry attacks and protect users and the vehicle’s main drive-train, chassis, and safety systems connected to the CAN bus. This mechanism relies on an ARM® Cortex®-M3 core that remains segregated from the main system that runs on a dual Cortex-A7. The Telemaco3 chips also include a dedicated hardware cryptographic engine to optimize encryption and decryption operations.
•Demos based on ST’s latest Accordo5 automotive processors will also be shown, including a smartphone replication for display audio infotainment applications and digital instrument cluster.
•A smart-camera system demo with an HDR LED flicker-free CMOS sensor combines very high dynamic range with a native full immunity against LED light flicker. During the demonstration, LEDs that are simulating car lights, traffic lights, and road signs, will be flickering at different frequencies and captured by the camera to show the immunity for any LED frequency and duty cycle. Meanwhile, an HDR scene will be preserved and displayed on the camera LCD screen.
•In cooperation with Airbiquity, a global leader in connected vehicle services, ST will demonstrate an industry-leading Over-The-Air (OTA) Software & Data Management solution that allows automakers and suppliers to remotely orchestrate and automate multi-ECU software updates and data management –at scale– from the cloud. The joint demonstration at the China International Automotive Technology Expo also features the integration of ST’s automotive telematics and connectivity processors, specifically the Telemaco3 Evaluation Board (EVB) acting as a safe and secure on-board automotive OTA gateway.
ST will also show a scooter engine-management demo board based on the Company’s automotive ICs. With its flexible and open design features, the demo board can be used for evaluation of ST’s PowerPC 32-bit microcontrollers and the L9177 engine-control ICs.
